In february 1960 the first ever French nuclear test was performed above ground in the desert of Regane in, then occupied, Algeria. It was codenamed ‘Le Gerboise Bleue’ and made France the 4th nuclear power worldwide. It’s 70 Kiloton yield was more then three times as powerfull as the Nagasaki bomb. The following two tests were named ‘Rouge’ and ‘Blanc’ in line with the Fench three-colour flag. After the tests, nuclear fallout was detected as far away as Senegal, Ivory Coast and Sudan.
In february 2022 large parts of Europe were covered in orange dust. It was blown in from the Sahara desert which was mainly visible in skiing areas. Analyses carried out by ACRO showed that they contain residues of radioactive Caesium-137 pollution, originating from the French nucelar testing in the Algerian desert.
During that same february in ‘22, for the first time in decades, Russia threatened with nuclear action during the start of the Ukraine war.

The initial recordings for this album were made more than twenty years ago by Nocturne and De Fabriek but it never materialised into a release. The recent february events made us revive this project. The cassette tape holds the unreleased recordings by De Fabriek and Nocturne from 20 years ago. The CD contains new music by De Fabriek.
